This is the home of all K’laab Films projects, led by Rook. As a former award-winning TV reporter, storytelling has always been at the core of Rook’s heart. In 2012, he was first introduced to film production while starring in a lead role of the J.Lee Productions LLC film ‘The Murderer.’
Shortly after that, Rook got his first experience with directing and producing when he created a documentary film for his final graduate school thesis project at The University of Mississippi’s Journalism School. The film titled ‘Gentle Ben’ explored the experiences of Ben Williams' football career at Ole Miss. He was first African-American football player to integrate the school in 1972.
Rook’s commitment to storytelling is evident in his personal and professional pursuit to include Black culture in his stories. Inspired by writers and directors such as Donald Glover, Issa Rae, and Ryan Coogler, Rook is on a path to make firm steps in the film industry. Based on the east coast in Philadelphia, PA, Rook focuses on developing positive narratives connected to Black culture, and Black bodies. “There are too many negative, false stories and stereotypes surrounding my people, I’m here to put a spotlight on the many positive things we produce in this world while also being transparent and vulnerable about the challenges, racism, prejudices and micro-aggressions we face on a daily basis.” – Rook
